That’s Entertainment!
2006 Dur. 2:52 Stereo
This film takes a very broad look at trends in popular screen culture. The title immediately suggests a comparison to the elaborate production numbers of the 1930s and 1940s which featured romantic storylines, intricate choreography, melodic orchestral accompaniment, smooth camerawork and seamless editing.
In this updated version of Hollywood’s That’s Entertainment! the characters featured on screen are impudent and offensive, the camerawork is deliberately rough and bumpy, the editing is disjointed, and the gratuitous visual effects provide “jolts” that hypnotize us into believing we’re actually watching something.
Essentially the film begs the question, “Is there anything left to destroy?”
