Subterranean Adventures

1975    Dur. 8:02    Mono

This piece opens with a little novelty song extolling the recreational pastime of mindlessly digging holes in the ground (one of the few times I wrote lyrics, and what “deep” lyrics they were!). From there we continue to burrow, excavate and frolic underground in anticipation of what the next shovelful might unearth. Buried treasure is where you find it.

Lyrics:

Now when you’re feelin’ so down, don’t worry my friend
Just do what I say and your troubles will end
If things aren’t goin’ just the way that you planned
You better take my advice to bring them blues to an end

Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig it!

Now if you’re really enthused here’s what you can do
Get your family and your friends to dig a hole with you
Dig it real wide and dig it real deep
You’ll be diggin’ so much you’ll be diggin’ in your sleep

Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig it!

Why don’t you put on your boots and pick up a spade?
Go into the yard and embed the blade
Pull up the earth and toss it aside
This is just what you need to fill your body with pride

Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole
Dig it!
